Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and the rights you have.
Last updated 31 October 2026.
Who we are
English Matchday (englishmatchday.co.uk) is an independent football information website covering the Premier League and the Championship. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the English Matchday editorial team. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the site, why we collect it and what your rights are under UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What information do we collect?
You do not need an account to use English Matchday, and we do not ask you to fill in forms to read the site. We do not knowingly collect your name, email address or other contact details through the site itself.
Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, the pages you request, the date and time, and your browser type. We use this to keep the site secure, fix faults and understand load on the servers. If you contact us by email, we will also hold the details you send us so that we can reply.
How do we use your information?
- To deliver the pages you ask for and keep the site secure.
- To investigate errors and misuse.
- To reply to messages you send us, including correction requests.
Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website, and, where you contact us, our legitimate interest in answering you. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.
Cookies and similar technologies
At the time of writing, English Matchday does not set advertising or analytics cookies. The site may store small technical items in your browser that it needs to work, such as remembering a setting you choose on the page.
If we add analytics, advertising or social media tools in future, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it and update this page first. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the site may then work less well.
Third parties
Some content on our pages is loaded from other organisations. For example, club crests are loaded from the servers of our football data provider, API-Football, so that provider can see your IP address when your browser requests an image. Our hosting provider also processes server data on our behalf. We choose providers carefully, but their own privacy notices apply to the data they handle.
Our pages contain links to other websites, such as the Premier League, the BBC and gambling support organisations. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies when you visit them.
How long do we keep data?
Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and fault-finding, and are then deleted or anonymised. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your message, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us what personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, to ask us to restrict or stop using it, and to object to our use of it. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, contact us through the About page and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
English Matchday is aimed at a general football audience and is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Our pages about betting are for adults only; see our responsible gambling page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes, for example if we add analytics or accounts. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
