Who is the Championship top scorer right now?
The player at the top of the table above is the current Championship top scorer. The list is ranked by league goals, and it shows the player’s club and the number of appearances next to each name. Because the data refreshes automatically, you do not need to reload a static article to see the latest leader.

How are Championship goals counted in this table?
This table counts goals scored in Championship league matches in the 2026-27 season. It does not include goals in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup or the play offs. In other words, a hat-trick in a cup tie will not move a player up this list.
Penalties count towards a player’s total. As is standard, an own goal is not credited to the player who scored it. Players who are level on goals share the same total, so treat equal numbers as a shared position. We list level players in the order the data feed returns them.
How do I read the Championship top scorers table?
Each row shows a player’s league position in the scoring race, the player’s name and club, the number of league appearances and the goals scored. The goals column is the one that decides the order.
The appearances column adds useful context. For example, a striker with 10 goals in 12 games is scoring at a faster rate than one with 10 goals in 16, even though both sit level in the table. Likewise, a player with fewer appearances may have been used mainly as a substitute, so a low count does not always mean a quiet season.
Moreover, the club beside each name shows how goals are spread across the division. Teams near the top of the Championship table often have one or two reliable scorers, while sides lower down may depend on a single player for most of their goals. That is why a scorer can matter as much to a relegation fight as to the promotion race.
Why do the Championship top scorers matter for promotion?
Goals decide matches, so the leading scorers often play for clubs chasing the top eight. With the new six-team format, more clubs stay in contention for longer, and a reliable finisher can keep a team in the play-off places. Our guide to the Championship play offs explains how those places now work.
In short, the scoring table is a quick way to spot which attackers are driving their clubs up the league. Use it alongside the fixtures list to see who has the easiest run of games coming up.
How often does the top scorers table update?
The table updates automatically, usually within about half an hour of new data arriving. We cache the feed for 30 minutes to keep the page fast and to stay within our data limits. As a result, a goal from a few minutes ago may not show straight away.
If the data feed is unavailable, the page shows the last saved version, and it shows a clear message if no saved version exists.
Where does the data come from?
The figures come from API-Football, a licensed football data provider. We do not edit the numbers by hand, and we do not estimate goals. If a total looks wrong, tell us through our about page and we will check it against the match reports.
This approach matters because accuracy is the point of a stats page. Our editorial policy explains how we handle corrections.
How can I compare scorers fairly?
Raw goal totals are only the start. To compare two strikers, divide their goals by their appearances. A player with 8 goals in 10 games averages 0.8 per match, while a player with 8 goals in 16 games averages 0.5. Both are level on goals, but the first is more efficient.
It also helps to check the club. A striker in a side near the top of the Championship table usually gets more chances than one in a struggling team. Therefore, a lower total from a smaller club can still be an impressive return.
For a wider view, compare these names with the Premier League hub, where the same live scorers table runs for the top flight.
How do we keep this table accurate?
We do not type these numbers in by hand. The table pulls from a licensed data feed, and the page checks for new data automatically. If the feed fails, the page shows the last saved version instead of an error.
When a total looks wrong, we compare it against the match reports on our results page and the club’s own match record. If we find an error, we correct it and note it where it matters. In short, a stats page is only useful if readers can trust it, and this is how we try to earn that trust.
