Who leads the Premier League assists table right now?

The player at the top of the table is the current leader in Premier League assists. The list is ranked by league assists, and it shows the club, appearances and goals next to each name. Because the data refreshes automatically, you do not need to wait for a new article to see the latest order.

Check back after each round of fixtures. Meanwhile, you can follow every game on our live scores page, or read the latest results to see who set up the goals.

How are Premier League assists counted?

An assist is credited to the player whose pass, cross or set piece leads directly to a goal. It is a judgement made by the match data provider, so it follows a written definition but still involves interpretation. For example, a pass that is deflected before reaching the scorer can be credited in one data set and not in another.

This table counts league assists only. Assists in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and European competitions are not included, so a player who creates a lot in cup ties will not see those on this list. Players level on assists share a position, so treat equal numbers as a tie.

Why do assist totals differ between websites?

Different data providers apply the assist definition in slightly different ways, and some update their numbers after a review. As a result, you may see a total on another site that is one higher or lower than ours. That does not mean either site is wrong; it usually reflects a judgement call on a single goal.

Our figures come from a licensed data feed, and we do not adjust them by hand. If you want to compare, the official Premier League stats page is a good reference. If you spot a mistake in ours, tell us through the about page and we will check it.

How do I read the assists table?

Each row shows a player’s place in the chart, the name and club, league appearances, goals and assists. The assists column decides the order, and the other columns add context.

The appearances column matters because it shows how much a player has played. Someone with six assists in eight games is creating at a faster rate than someone with six in sixteen, even though they are level. Likewise, the goals column shows whether a player is mainly a creator or a goal threat as well. A midfielder with many assists and few goals is a pure provider, while a winger with a good return of both is involved in more of his side’s attacks.

How can I compare creators fairly?

Raw totals are only a starting point. First, divide assists by appearances to get a rate per game. Next, think about the team: a player in a side that scores plenty of goals has more chances for his passes to turn into assists than a player in a team that struggles to score.

Set pieces matter too. A corner taker can collect a lot of assists from deliveries that are headed in, and that does not always mean he is the best passer in open play. Therefore, look at the player’s role as well as the number. You can check each club’s attack on its club page, which shows goals scored and the top scorers.

How do assists connect to goals and the title race?

Assists and goals are two sides of the same attack. The Premier League hub shows the top scorers next to the table, so you can see which pairs of players are driving their clubs. When a striker and a creator both rank high, the club often sits near the top of the league table as well.

That said, a single player does not decide a season. Injuries, rotation and tactical changes move assists around quickly, and the Premier League form table can show whether a club’s attack has been in good shape recently.

How often does the assists table update?

The table updates automatically, usually within about half an hour of new data arriving. We keep a copy of the feed for 30 minutes to keep the page fast and to stay within our data limits, so a very recent assist may not show straight away. If the feed is unavailable, the page shows a clear message rather than wrong numbers.

Where does the assists data come from?

The numbers come from API-Football, a licensed football data provider. We do not type them in by hand, and we do not estimate assists. Our editorial policy explains how we label anything we could not confirm and how we handle corrections.
