How does the EFL Cup draw work?

The competition is a straight knockout, and each round is drawn at random once the previous one has finished. Clubs enter at different stages. The 11 Premier League clubs without European football came in at the second round, and the nine clubs in European competition joined at the third round. The earlier draws took place on 10 August for the second round and 26 August for the third round.

The fourth round and the quarter-finals are single matches, and the semi-finals are the only round played over two legs. That keeps the early rounds fast, and it means a lower-league club only has to beat a bigger one once to reach the last eight.

When is the EFL Cup semi-final draw?

The semi-final draw has not been scheduled yet. It can only happen after the quarter-finals are played in mid-December, so we expect it soon after the last tie. We will add the date here once the EFL confirms it, and the ties as soon as they are known.

Two lower-league clubs are still in it. Bradford must win at the holders, Manchester City, while Fleetwood Town host Everton. If either goes through, the draw would feature a club from outside the top flight in the last four, which makes it one to watch.
