Predictions come from our model, built on recent form, attack and defence strength, goals and head-to-head history. They are not guarantees. Check the 18+ and safer gambling notes below.

Today’s talking points

The daily talking points are written each morning from the latest form, injuries and fixtures. Check back after the morning update.

How do we make our football predictions?

We start with a licensed data feed that scores every upcoming Premier League and Championship game. The model looks at each side’s recent form, how many goals they score and concede, how strong their attack is against the other side’s defence, and what happened when the two met before. It turns those inputs into one pick for each game: a home win, a draw or an away win.

The picks are estimates, not facts. A side that is favoured to win still fails to do so in a large share of comparable games. Because of that, we keep the language plain, we never call anything certain, and we publish the full record of hits and misses further down.

In the daily talking points we also add context a model cannot see well, such as suspensions, a congested week or a manager change. Where the model and our own read differ, we say so.

How should you read our predictions?

Each game shows one pick. Tap “Why this prediction?” to open the reasoning, which names the factors that tip the game, such as stronger recent form, a sharper attack, a tighter defence or a better head-to-head record. Where the sides are very close, the pick is only a slight lean, and the reasoning says so.

A few simple rules help. First, a draw is rarely the single most likely result, but it happens in roughly a quarter of games, so it should never be ignored. Second, the more reasons listed in favour of one side, the stronger the pick. Third, the goals pointer, such as under 3.5, is a rough guide to how open the game may be, not a forecast of the exact score.

What are the limits of football predictions?

Football has fewer goals than most team sports, so a single deflection, red card or goalkeeping error can undo a well-supported lean. Models also react slowly to late news. If a key striker is ruled out an hour before kick-off, the picks may not have caught up yet.

Early-season games have the least reliable numbers because there is little form to read. The same is true after an international break, when squads return tired or unsettled. That is why we publish the record below instead of asking you to take the model on trust.

How have our predictions performed?

Every pick on this page is saved before kick-off and never edited afterwards. The pick is a single outcome: home win, draw or away win. Once a game finishes, we compare the result with the pick and add it to the running total.

Our prediction record

We started logging the model's lean for every match on this page on 31 October 2026. Results will appear here as games finish, including the misses. Pending: 11.

A fair target for any football model is a hit rate that beats simply backing the home side every week. We will report honestly if we fall short of that. Read more in how accurate are football predictions.

Where can you find the data behind these predictions?

You can check the context for any game on its own pages. Our Premier League form table shows who is hot or cold, the clean sheets table shows which defences are tight, and the league tables show where each side sits. For a single side, open its page in our club guides. Results and kick-off times are on our fixtures and results pages, and you can follow games as they happen on live scores. For the wider picture, see the Premier League hub and the Championship hub.

Football predictions today: frequently asked questions

What are football predictions today?

They are our data-led picks for the Premier League and Championship games coming up in the next few days: a home win, a draw or an away win, with a short reason behind each one. They are opinions based on numbers, not certainties.

How accurate are your football predictions?

Football is low-scoring and results often turn on one moment, so no model is right every time. We log the model’s pick for every match before kick-off and publish the running record, including the misses, so you can judge for yourself.

Where do the predictions come from?

They come from the prediction feed of API-Football, a licensed data provider. It combines recent form, attacking and defensive strength, goals and head-to-head history. We do not change the numbers by hand.

How often is this page updated?

The fixtures and picks refresh through the day. The written talking points are rewritten each morning, and the date at the top shows when they were last updated.

Are these betting tips?

No. They are predictions and analysis. Nothing here is a guarantee, and nothing on this page is a recommendation to place a bet. If you do bet, only stake what you can afford to lose.

Why are some predictions only a slight lean?

When two outcomes are almost level, the model still has to choose one, so the reasoning tells you the pick is only a slight lean. We would rather say that than pretend every game has a clear favourite.

Are these football predictions free?

Yes. The predictions, the reasoning and our full record are free to read, with no sign-up or payment. We do not sell picks.
