The Championship form table ranks all 24 clubs by how they have played in their last five league games, not by the whole season. It sits below, with each club’s results shown as W, D and L, and it refreshes through the day. Underneath the table, we explain how it is built, how to read it and where it can mislead you.

What is a Championship form table?
A form table is a league table that only counts recent games. Instead of adding up every match since the start of the season, it takes each club’s last five finished league games and awards the usual points: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. The club with the most points from those five games sits at the top.
That makes it a quick way to see momentum. Because the Championship is a 46-game season, a run of five games is about a ninth of a club’s league programme, which is enough to show a real trend but not enough to settle a season.
How is the Championship form table different from the league table?
The main league table rewards consistency over the whole season, while the form table rewards what has happened lately. If a club started badly but has won its last four, it can be near the bottom of the league table and near the top of this one.
The reverse also happens. A club that built a big lead early may still be well placed in the league table while its last five games have gone badly. Reading the two side by side, as you can on the Championship hub, tells you whether a club is rising, holding steady or fading.
How should you read the Championship form table?
Start with the points total, then look at the W, D and L run for the detail. A club on twelve points with four wins and a draw is in strong form. A club on nine points from three wins and two defeats is winning games but not consistently, which often points to a side that is hard to beat at home and fragile away.
It also helps to look at who those games were against. Five wins against sides in the bottom half are not the same as five wins against the top six. Our fixtures and results pages let you check the opponents, and the top scorers table shows which strikers are driving a club’s run.
Where can the Championship form table mislead you?
The biggest risk is the small sample. Five games can be shaped by a hard run of fixtures, a red card or a single result that went the wrong way, so one bad week can drag a good side down. Postponed games can also leave clubs with different numbers of recent matches, although we always count the last five that were actually played.
The table is also a snapshot. It says nothing about injuries, suspensions or a manager change, all of which can move a club’s form quickly. For the wider picture, use it alongside the league table and our football predictions, which add reasoning for every game in the next three days.
How do promotion and relegation affect the picture?
The top two clubs in the Championship are promoted, the clubs from third to eighth go into the play-offs, which expanded from four clubs to six from 2026-27, and the bottom three are relegated. That means the form table matters most at both ends of the league table. A club in the play-off chase wants a strong run late on, while a club close to the drop zone needs points from every game it can get.
Because of that, a good form table position near the end of the season often means more than the same position in October. Early in the season, treat it as a guide to momentum rather than a prediction of where a club will finish.
Where does the data come from?
The results behind the table come from a licensed football data feed and refresh through the day. We count only league games, so cup ties and friendlies never change a club’s form figure. You can read how we handle data and corrections in our editorial policy, and compare with the Premier League form table, which is built the same way.
Championship form table: frequently asked questions
What is the Championship form table?
It is a table of all 24 Championship clubs ranked by their last five league games only. A win scores three points, a draw one and a defeat none, so it shows who is playing well now, not who has been strong all season.
How is the Championship form table different from the league table?
The league table adds up every game since the start of the season. The form table only counts each club’s most recent five league games, so a club can sit low in the league table and high in the form table if it has just found its feet.
Does the form table include cup games?
No. Only Championship league games count, which keeps every club on the same footing. Cup ties, friendlies and play-off games are left out.
How often does the Championship form table update?
It refreshes through the day as results come in from our data feed, roughly every ten minutes, so it should always reflect the latest finished games.
Is the best form team always the best team?
Not necessarily. Five games is a small sample, and the strength of the opponents matters. A club that has beaten three struggling sides can top the form table without being a promotion contender.
What is the maximum score in the form table?
Fifteen points, which is five wins from five. The lowest is zero, for five defeats.
